Sierra Rutile Limited (SRL) was proud to participate in the TZMI Congress 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, a premier global platform for the titanium and mineral sands industry.
The delegation, led by Mohamed Babatunde Cole, the Chairman of SRL’s holding company, engaged with industry peers, analysts, and customers to share the company’s renewed direction and strategic focus.
In his address, the CEO, Lima Sufian-Kargbo, outlined Sierra Rutile’s transformative journey and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to modernization, expansion, and long-term relevance in the global critical minerals supply chain. He highlighted that Sierra Rutile has not only weathered industry volatility but has emerged stronger and ready to be leading player in the next phase of growth in the industry.
A key priority remains the acceleration of the Sembehun Project, one of the world’s largest and highest-grade natural rutile deposits, which will reinforce Sierra Rutile’s position in the future of titanium feedstocks and critical minerals. Complementing this is the ongoing reconfiguration of Area 1 to enhance productivity and extend the life of mine to continue meeting global demand.
For the first time at a global forum of this scale, Sierra Rutile also positioned its Rare Earth Elements (REE) and Heavy Rare Earth Elements (HREE) potential as an emerging value driver, alongside its world-leading natural rutile operations.
A major operational milestone announced at the Congress was the completion of the Base Titanium Kwale Plant acquisition for the Sembehun development. With disassembly and relocation preparations well in progress, marking a pivotal step toward establishing a world-class mineral processing hub in Sierra Leone.
The CEO further underscored planned Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives at Sembehun, focused on reducing Sierra Rutile’s carbon footprint, strengthening community engagement, and advancing mine rehabilitation efforts at Area 1.
With a strengthened leadership team, enhanced processing capacity, growing global partnerships, and significant REE upside, Sierra Rutile stands at the threshold of a new chapter defined by growth, innovation, and enduring strategic relevance in the global minerals industry.
